Happy solar eclipse day.
This weekend I…
played my first real game of poker (and won)
had a spectacular meal at Thai Diner, which continues to be spectacular despite the hype
baked not one, but TWO cakes (burnt basque cheesecake, moist chocolate cake with jasmine whipped cream)
found the tiniest mangoes ever in Chinatown

💌 The scoop:
People are getting sick of celebrity beauty brands
Serena Williams’ Wyn Beauty seems to be the nail in the coffin. The Cut has joined the celebrity beauty brand hate train and it’s about time we start talking about how oversaturated this market is. I’ve been saying this for years.
Hot girls are getting on Reddit
The cool girls of NYC are all on r/NYCBitchesWithTaste sharing cool girl tips, advice, and recommendations. I joined this subreddit about a month ago, when it had just over 2,000 members. As of this morning, it is at 55k and counting.
This exponential growth can be attributed to a gap in the market for what I would call “cool girl community.” I think what really draws people to this sub is the gathering of information and recommendations in a way that doesn’t feel branded. Women online are overwhelmed by the relentless pushing of products by influencers and online “cool girls” who are trying to sell them something. The anonymous nature of Reddit makes this advice and recommendations feel a lot more authentic.

Can age gap discourse be a PR tool?
The internet is freaking out about the age gap between 21 year old Aoki Lee Simmons and Vittorio Asaff, the 65 year-old restauranteur she was caught fooling around with on St. Barthes over the weekend. I’m convinced that this is a PR move by the Simmons family to manufacture attention and catapult Aoki into Gen Z superstardom.
Costco’s jumping on the Ozempic train
Ok, Costco isn’t technically selling Ozempic for cheap. They are selling a discounted subscription to Sesame Health’s weight loss program, which includes consultations with a physician that may prescribe you a GLP-1 medication such as Ozempic. This is a genius move on Costco’s part— everyone’s scrambling to get their hands on these weight loss drugs, but no one really knows how to get them. These digital weight loss programs make it really easy if you meet their criteria.
Ukrainians refugees are fleeing NYC
Once a dream destination for Eastern European residents, Ukrainian refugees are leaving NYC and going back to war-torn Ukraine due to high cost of living, crime, and lack of resources. I personally know many people who have done this (including family members). They’re much happier being home than in New York, even if home is an active war zone. What does that tell you about this city?
For the first time in 15 years, all of Forbes billionaires under 30 have inherited their wealth
Coincidence? Maybe, but I think this is not a good sign of the times, and likely points to a larger issue surrounding a slowing down of upward mobility and the transfer of wealth.
The solar eclipse is today
I thought this was a fun move from a brand. Sun Chips made a limited-edition Solar Eclipse flavor that will be available for purchase online starting at 1:33PM. They also sent out some fun influencer eclipse kits to celebrate.

This shit has taken over my feed and probably yours too. Here’s an explainer.
⭐️ Recommendation
I’m currently listening to this 2-part episode of Search Engine that explains why SO many illegal weed stores have popped up around NYC. It’s complicated.
Not an nyc bitch but joined so fast
Intense about Ukrainians leaving NY. Agree with your insights about cool girls of Reddit.
